Both of these compartments can hold handguns and ammo and both have lockable zipper pulls. I received this range bag as a gift. I instantly fell in love with it, nicely made and plenty of room. I now have to get another one due to someone stealing it at the gun range last Saturday,I am grateful that my pistols were not in it! I lost magazines for Sig,Glock,Ruger and F&N and a few hundred dollars worth of ammo and my binoculars.

This is one nice bag.
Got this one for my wife. Mine is at least 5 years old. It still looks new. Well designed pockets, in fact the whole bag is. No improvements needed. I have 20 pounds + in it at all time and handles it easily. It is almost too heavy to carry? A normal bag would have given out long ago. I forget where every thing is with so many.well designed storage options. Good luck finding anything better.
